Good-bye Chester…

If you have gone through our gallery, you may have seen this 125 card of Chester, my 16 year old cousin’s horse below:

Unfortunately, a few days ago while I was travelling interstate, I received some bad news. My 16 year old cousin was riding Chester in the horse paddock (as she usually does). This time she didn’t put a saddle on and was riding him bare back (she would do this from time to time and is a pretty good rider). On this day, the sun was just starting to set so it was difficult to see the ground. Unfortunately, Chester got one of his legs caught in this metal object that was on the ground hiding beneath some long, dry grass and in the process threw my cousin off his back (which was lucky, as she didn’t get trampled on). She sustained a few minor bruises, but is doing ok.

They tried to calm Chester down as they called for the vet as they could not get his leg out of this metal object. In the meantime, Chester continued to struggle to get his leg out. However, by the time the vet got there his leg had sustained major injuries (as he tried to wrestle his way out) and a major artery on his leg was lacerated.

Sadly, my family made the difficult decision to have him put down rather than watch him suffer in pain and agony. My cousin is absolutely devastated as he meant a great deal to her, but she was involved in all the decision making process…I think in time she will learn to let him go.

I have added these two additional 125 x 125 pixel cards to the gallery of Chester, to commemorate his memory and how much he meant to my cousin.

I am so sorry to read of this news of Chester. But you also made the only choice you could. Chester is running freely now in the fields at the Rainbow Bridge.

    RIP Chester.
